FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 | 48 teams, 3 nations and Only One Goal
FIFA the first ever to be hosted by the 3 nations jointly, United States of America, Mexico and Canada. The biggest stage of the sports is all ready to start from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The first to include 48 teams which was previously 32 teams.
Expansion and Group Matches:
This is the first time since 1998 after 7 editions that FIFA has experienced an expansion in teams and it is huge, 16 teams have been added. The first thought on expansion was suggested as early as 2013 by then UEFA president Michel Platini, and also in 2016 by FIFA president Gianni Infantino but face opposition. At first it was thought the proposal was not for sports but was just placed to win the FIFA election by Gianni, promising to bring more countries to the World Cup. The total number of matches played will increase from 64 to 104, the teams will be placed into twelve groups of four teams each, with the top two teams in each group and the eight best third-placed teams progressing to a new round of 32 and the number of matches played by teams reaching the final four will increase to eight from seven previously. Each team will still play three group matches.
Tri Nation Host — the first ever:
The World Cup 2026 is here to make history in Fifa World, the tournament will be the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by three nations: United States of America, Mexico, Canada. Jointly hosted by sixteen cities—eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada, making it a unique experience for the fans as the excitement elevates and memories to create. The bid for the host was held at the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. Morocco was beaten in the bid. It is the first time Canada’s hosting or co-hosting FIFA World Cup. The FIFA is returning to its traditional Northern Hemisphere summer schedule from the unusual winter tournament which was uniquely held in November and December in Qatar just 4 years back in 2022. The tournament is returning to North America specifically after 32 years which was last held in 1994 in United States Of America. After 2002 this is the first FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by multiple nations. Mexico will become the first country ever to host or co-host the FIFA World Cup three times, previously hosted in 1970 and 1986.

Where the opening ceremony will take place and Who’s gonna perform?
The Mexico city will be the hosting the opening ceremony for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The first Whistle will blow on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The match will be played between the co-host Mexico and South Africa.
Shakira and Burna Boy will be performing the official tournament song “Dai Dai” at the opening ceremony. Other performers include J Balvin, Tyla, Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, and Los Ángeles Azules.
Moreover, United States and Canada will host their first matches on Friday, June 12, 2026. Also, their first whistles will start will the performances as listed below in the respective countries.
US: SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles.
Artists: Katy Perry and Future will be heading the ceremony. Other performers will feature global pop star LISA from the BLACKPINK, Rema, and Brazilian pop star Anitta.
Canada: BMO Field, Toronto.
Artists: Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé will start. More artists includes Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream, and William Prince.
Where Semis are going to take place?
The semi finals for the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be taking place in AT&T Stadium in Dallas and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
